Some things are painful to explain in text. A layout bug, a confusing flow, a quick walkthrough of how to fill a form: showing beats telling. Clips is Clokio's built-in screen recorder, letting anyone record their screen with narration straight from the web dashboard, keep a personal library of recordings, and turn a recording into a task with the video embedded. No extension to install, no third-party tool, no file juggling.

Recording a Clip

Clips works in the web dashboard on desktop Chrome, Edge, and Firefox:

Start a recording from the dashboard. A small popup appears where you pick your microphone, so narration is captured along with the screen.
Your browser then shows its native screen picker: choose a full screen, a window, or a single tab.
Recording begins, and a small floating widget stays in the top corner of the dashboard so you always see that you are recording. It survives navigation, so you can move between pages mid-recording.
Click stop when done. The clip uploads and a "Clip saved" popup offers your next step: open your library, copy a share link, download, or create a task from the clip.

If the browser does not prompt for permissions, check that screen sharing and microphone access are allowed for the site in your browser settings.

The 5-Minute Cap

Clips are capped at 5 minutes, on purpose. Short clips get watched; twenty-minute recordings do not. You get a warning at 4 minutes 30 seconds, and recording stops automatically at 5 minutes, with everything captured up to that point saved normally. If a topic needs more time, record it as a few focused clips.

Your Clips Library

Every clip lands in My Clips, your personal library. Clips are private to you: each employee sees only their own recordings. In the library you can:

Preview clips with thumbnails and play them in the browser, with full seeking so you can jump to any moment.
Rename clips inline to keep the library organized.
Copy a share link, download, create a task, or delete, right from the clip's card.

Clips are also included in the dashboard's global search, scoped to your own library, so finding "that recording about the invoice screen" is a search away.

Sharing and MP4 Download

Recordings are captured in a web format, which is efficient for recording but not universally playable. So after each recording, Clokio automatically converts the clip to MP4 in the background, a format that plays everywhere: WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, iMessage, Safari, and standard video players.

The download button prefers the MP4 when conversion is done; until then, the original file is available.
Conversion status is visible on the clip, and the page updates on its own when the MP4 becomes ready, no refreshing needed.

For colleagues inside Clokio, the share link is usually better than a file: it opens the clip directly, no download involved.

Turning a Clip Into a Task

The strongest feature of Clips is the bridge to task management. From the save popup or from any clip card, choose "Create task":

A panel opens with a project selector and a task editor.
The clip's video is already embedded in the task description.
Add a title and any context, pick the project, and create.

The result is a task whose description plays the recording inline: whoever picks it up watches exactly what you saw. You can also attach an existing clip to an existing task. Either way, the video streams securely to project members with access to the task.

The Permanent Protection Rule

There is one rule in Clips that deserves its own section: once a clip has been attached to a task, it can never be deleted from your library. Not even if the attachment is later removed from the task.

The reasoning is simple. The moment a clip becomes part of a task, other people depend on it: it documents a bug, justifies a decision, or explains a fix. Deleting it from a personal library would silently hollow out someone else's task. So attachment flips a one-way protection flag, and protected clips show a lock icon in the library where the delete button used to be.

Deleting a clip from your library and removing an attachment from a task are otherwise independent actions; the protection rule is the one place they intersect.

Common Questions

Can I record from my phone?

No. Clips is a web dashboard feature for desktop browsers, where screen recording APIs are available. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on desktop are supported.

Who can see my clips?

Only you, until you share. The library is personal per employee. A clip becomes visible to others when you share its link or attach it to a task, where task access rules apply.

Why is my download not MP4 yet?

Conversion runs in the background and usually completes shortly after upload. The clip's card shows the status, and the download automatically switches to MP4 once ready. Until then you can download the original recording file.

Why can't I delete one of my clips?

It was attached to a task at some point. That attachment permanently protects the clip from deletion, even if it was later detached, because tasks and their history may depend on it. The lock icon marks protected clips.

What happens at the 5-minute mark?

Recording stops automatically and everything up to that point is saved as a normal clip. You get a warning 30 seconds before, so you can wrap up cleanly.

Is there a limit on file size?

Uploads are capped at 200 MB, which comfortably fits a full 5-minute recording.
